Take a journey through the rich history and diverse narratives that helped shape the Black community in Gettysburg and Adams County.
Be a part of the launch of the inaugural Gettysburg Black History Trail on Wednesday, June 26 at 10 a.m. in Lincoln Cemetery.
Parking will be available near Gettysburg Area Recreation Park on Long Lane.
Join trail partners, guests and media for the announcement of the new trail and get the first glimpse of the trail’s digital passport.
A formal presentation begins at 10 a.m. at the cemetery rostrum with speakers giving details of the trail until approximately 10:30 a.m. A group photo of trail partners will then be taken followed by an optional tour of Historic Lincoln Cemetery given by Jean Green, Director of the Lincoln Cemetery Project Association. The presentation and media interviews will end around 10:45 a.m. and the optional tour should end no later than 11:30 a.m.
This digital trail is just the beginning of an ongoing story. Additional information, details, and anecdotes that contribute to the collective understanding of Black Gettysburg and Adams County are encouraged. Come, learn more and celebrate the diverse vioices and experiences of Gettysburg’s shared heritage.
