Devil’s Den is one of the most famous geological features of the American Civil War. The iconic landscape here set the scene for one of bloodiest fights of the 3-bay battle on July 2, 1863. Prior to the war, the area was a popular local picnic spot and during the post-war years, Devil’s Den became one of the most visited sites associated with the battle. On September 26, Historian Timothy H. Smith discusses the legend and lore, the battle action, and continued popularity of one of Gettysburg most recognized places.
