The last few days of June were not a walk in the park for the men of the 5th Army Corps. On June 28th, the corps was at Frederick, and on June 29th and 30th, the men covered some 45 miles, encamping at Union Mills, Maryland. On July 1st, the men were ordered to Hanover, but upon their arrival word came to join the army at Gettysburg. With little time for food or rest, the men pushed on through the night arriving near the battlefield early on July 2nd, putting them into position to play a decisive role in the battle that day. Join ACHS Historian Tim Smith for this free public program as he examines the route of the 5th Army Corps from Frederick to Gettysburg and the events that occurred during that long and arduous march.
