Unfinished Work: A Commemorative Concert

“Unfinished Work: A Commemorative Concert” is a performance by the Gettysburg College Sunderman Conservatory Wind Symphony on November 13, 2026, at The Majestic Theater in Gettysburg. The program connects the 250th anniversary of the United States with the anniversary of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. It includes music spanning nearly 250 years of American history, from Revolutionary era hymns by William Billings, arranged by William Schuman in New England Triptych, to Richard Danielpour’s Vox Populi, and Jack Stamp’s Cenotaph.

The concert centers on Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, narrated by actor Bruce Boxleitner. This performance previews a second performance of Lincoln Portrait, also narrated by Boxleitner, at the Gettysburg College Civil War Institute’s Fortenbaugh Memorial Lecture on November 19, which closes the town’s “Lincoln at Gettysburg: Shall Not Perish” commemoration.
