Civil War Tails is a one-of-a-kind diorama museum featuring CATS! Yes, these dioramas offer a bird’s eye view of prominent Civil War battles with historical accuracy and miniature hand-crafted cat-soldiers. Here, you’ll find stories of the courage, perseverance, and dedication of the people who fought, lived, and died during the Civil War, with an entertaining twist that the kids will love.
The twin sister owners of Civil War Tails, Rebecca and Ruth Brown, began making cat-soldiers out of modeling clay when they were just 11 years old. Soon after, they started creating dioramas with their clay creations. Over the years, their dioramas (and cats) have improved, but the cat-soldier twist on history remains. They like the quirkiness of having cats as soldiers, and, after all, history doesn’t have to be boring. Other than the big noses and the tails, they strive for accuracy so that each scene shows what the reality could have looked like. Each diorama was made with a close attention to detail and a one-to-one ratio with to-scale cats. Each cat represents one soldier.
When visiting Civil War Tails, you will get a bird’s-eye view of a battle or you can get down to eye-level and see what a soldier would have seen. See the soldiers, the horses, the cannons, and the places. Discover 3-D depictions of several historical battles including:
