Located just 8 miles west of Gettysburg, PA, the Historic Round Barn & Farm Market, built in 1914, is one of only a handful of round barns surviving today. The barn is owned by the Knouse family and Knouse Fruitlands Inc. offering a wide selection of home-grown and local, fresh fruits and vegetables during the season. Set among the picturesque, Pennsylvania foothills, you’ll love its beautiful architecture against the rolling, orchard-covered hills.
There are many interesting food, decorative and gift items filling the shelves as they curve their way around the interior of the barn. Treat yourself to our very own seasonal specialties cultivated with the farming wisdom of four generations or some hand-picked features from our farming neighbors and their families. Don’t forget our baked goods section, filled with old fashioned PA Dutch cookies, pies, muffins, and breads baked in-house or sourced locally.
We keep busy by growing over 30 types of apples, 20 types of peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, pears, cherries, berries and grapes. Phew, that’s quite a list…and that’s just the fruit. We have expanded into vegetables, including sensational sweet corn, amazing asparagus, tasty tomatoes and others like peppers, cucumbers, zucchinis and egg plants. Plus, plenty of pumpkins, from jack-o-lanterns to pie pumpkins to beautiful heirloom varietals.
Our farming roots are four generations and nine decades deep. You won’t find a tighter bunch than the Knouse family. We’ve grown up together, eating our lunches off the tree, playing capture the flag in the orchards, and summers at Grandma’s house by the pool. Our 1,200+ acres of land is scattered over eight farms in Adams, Cumberland and Franklin Counties holding over 600 acres of apples and an additional 100 acres of other fruits and vegetables. To take care of our environment, we practice Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in our farming. we still want to use it 80 more years from now – and take care of you! What does that mean? We actually use fewer pesticides for growing our fruit than organic farming. Yes, organic farms use pesticides, but we get away with a little less. That’s because we let experts refine what we use so we can use the smallest amount to have just enough effect, in just the right way.
The Round Barn may also be just the place to stage your special event. Weddings at our venue perfectly “marry” the past and the present, from our outdoor ceremony location overlooking the barn, to receptions inside the barn itself. The highly vaulted roof and support structure lend themselves easily to any illumination you can imagine. The round structure provides convenient access to your guests wherever they sit, be it the bar, buffet lines or the dance floor! You’ll also get more than just a beautiful setting. Need tables and chairs, linens or the bar kit? Let us know your needs! We have many things onsite and references for the rest.
Whether you’re here for an event, our fresh fruit or just exploring, we think you’ll find it’s a truly well-rounded experience.
