Step back in time at the Langdon Hill House, a beautifully restored Bed & Breakfast originally built in 1816 by Thomas McKelip. Perched atop Baltimore Hill, this historic home served as a strategic vantage point during the Battle of Gettysburg—and even stood along the route President Lincoln traveled in 1863 on his way to deliver the Gettysburg Address.
Rich with Civil War history, the property witnessed intense military activity, including Confederate General Richard S. Ewell observing the battle nearby and troops such as the Louisiana Tigers occupying the home. Evidence of its past remains throughout the house, from recovered bullets and attic markings to signs of its use as a post-battle medical site. Recent restoration efforts have uncovered even more artifacts, adding to the home’s remarkable story.
Today, Langdon Hill House offers a unique blend of historic charm and modern comfort. Guests can choose from four spacious, thoughtfully appointed rooms—each with its own story and private ensuite bathroom:
- The Felty Room – The largest room, featuring a clawfoot tub and named for Dr. John Calvin Felty, a former owner and Civil War physician.
- The Langdon Room – A cozy space honoring a family legacy of Civil War service, complete with historic artifacts.
- The McKelip Room – Named for the home’s original builder, offering generous space and garden views.
- The Sharpshooter Nest – Located on the third floor, this room reflects its wartime use by sharpshooters, with preserved historical details.
The inn is adorned with Civil War artwork by renowned artists such as Mort Künstler and Dale Gallon, along with photography of Evergreen Cemetery. Guests can relax in inviting common spaces, including a parlor, game room, and a sunroom with scenic views of the battlefield and sunrise.
