Stretching more than 300 miles across the Commonwealth, Pennsylvania’s Highway of Heroes follows historic U.S. Route 30, the Lincoln Highway, America’s first transcontinental roadway. Traveling east to west from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, this meaningful route connects six nationally significant sites that together tell the story of courage, sacrifice, leadership, and freedom.
As the nation commemorates its 250th anniversary, Pennsylvania’s role in shaping America comes sharply into focus. Along this single road, visitors can trace the country’s journey from independence and endurance to unity, global leadership, and modern sacrifice, all preserved by the National Park Service and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Independence National Historical Park (Philadelphia)
Where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, giving birth to a new nation.
Valley Forge National Historical Park (King of Prussia)
The site of Washington’s winter encampment, where perseverance forged the American Army.
Gettysburg National Military Park (Gettysburg)
The turning point of the Civil War and the place where Lincoln redefined the nation’s ideals.
Eisenhower National Historic Site (Gettysburg):
The home of Dwight D. Eisenhower, symbolizing leadership in defense of democracy at home and abroad.
Flight 93 National Memorial (Somerset County)
Honoring the passengers and crew whose actions on September 11, 2001, saved countless lives.
Fort Pitt Museum (Pittsburgh)
A gateway to westward expansion and a reminder of America’s earliest frontier struggles.

Visitors can explore the Highway of Heroes through a mobile platform that allows digital check-ins at each site, unlocking stories, context, and interactive content along the way. Travelers who complete all six stops receive a complimentary set of commemorative challenge coins, one for each site, plus a display stand to mark their journey.
The Highway of Heroes is more than a road trip. It’s a once-in-a-generation invitation to travel through the soul of a nation, one mile, one story, one place at a time.
