Historic Hotels in Gettysburg

Classic charm runs deep at Gettysburg’s historic hotels, including Hotel Gettysburg – located in the heart of historic downtown Gettysburg. You could also lay your head at the Federal Pointe Inn, a former 1896 school that is a blend of Federal and Gothic architectural features located in the historic downtown district, or The Swope Manor, a beautifully preserved 1836 mansion. The Brickhouse Inn blends an 1898 Victorian home and an 1830s residence that bears battle scars from the war, while Lightner Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast offers a peaceful stay in an 1862 Federal-style house situated on 18 private acres just two miles from the Gettysburg National Military Park.

Walk to the battlefield from welcoming spots like Best Western Gettysburg, 1863 Inn of Gettysburg, Quality Inn — Gettysburg Battlefield, and the Inn at Cemetery Hill. Want a little more breathing room? For those willing to take a short drive, options like Courtyard by Marriott Gettysburg and Wyndham Gettysburg provide modern amenities just a few minutes from the battlefield.

Can you stay on the Gettysburg Battlefield?

At this time, you cannot stay overnight directly on the Gettysburg Battlefield. The National Park Service previously offered public rentals of two historic homes — the Michael Bushman House and the John Slyder Farmhouse — as part of a three-year pilot program, but that program has since ended, and both homes are now closed to overnight guests. There are numerous places to stay within walking distance, providing easy access to the battlefield and historic downtown.

When is the best time to visit Gettysburg?

The best time to visit Gettysburg depends on what kind of experience you’re looking for! If you’re looking for lively events, reenactments, and tours, the summer is better, especially around the battle anniversary in July. For fewer crowds and beautiful scenery, visit in spring or late fall. Shoulder seasons offer lower rates, cooler weather, and a quieter, more reflective experience on the battlefield.

How many days should you stay in Gettysburg?

First-time visitors should plan to stay at least three full days in Gettysburg. One day is easily spent exploring the National Military Park and Museum. Beyond the battlefield, enjoy historic downtown Gettysburg, dine at local restaurants, shop eclectic boutiques, and explore the beautiful orchards, wineries, and hiking trails of Adams County.
