Winter is a wonderful time to experience the charm, the peace and the coziness of Gettysburg. And if you’re typically a warm weather visitor, Januarys in Gettysburg are unique in many ways.
Here are just a few reasons why January is a great time for a Gettysburg getaway …
Save 20 in 25! After the expensive holiday season, it’s always nice to save a little money, right? Visit Gettysburg in January (or February) and receive 20 percent off your overnight stay at participating hotels, bed and breakfasts and guest houses through Gettysburg’s winter lodging promotion.
If you didn’t get enough of the coziness and togetherness over the holiday season, book that weekend getaway in January and snuggle up in a cozy inn, dine fireside at a local tavern, and sip your favorite coffee drinks in our local downtown cafes. And if you’re lucky, you’ll get to watch the snow from your toasty bed.
If you’ve ever talked to anyone who’s visited Gettysburg in January, they’ll certainly tell you about the unique vantage points only found in the winter months. Once the trees bud their leaves for the year in the spring, these vantage points disappear, but in the meantime can create some unique understanding of the terrain and topography in Gettysburg.
Visit a museum. Escape the cold of January with a experience that’s certain to shed light on your understanding of America’s most pivotal moment. Check out a place you may not have had time for during the summer months.
January is about resetting, and there’s nothing to help you get back on track than a little self-care – eating right, getting active and doing something for yourself. Pamper yourself with a day at the spa, then savor some locally sourced food and drinks at a local restaurant before venturing out into the Gettysburg countryside to do something you want to do.
And if that something is skiing, or snowboarding, or snowtubing, we have you covered … in snow. Just 15 minutes from the town square in Gettysburg is Liberty Mountain Resort – giving you everything you need to enjoy the winter – from outdoor adventure to comfort food and cozy lodging. If you’re fortunate to get a long weekend in January in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., don’t waste it away – spend it doing something meaningful. Learn about Gettysburg’s own Black history through a new trail launched in 2024 to share the untold stories of the town’s Black community, or visit historic sites to help you reflect on our nation’s history.
