Gettysburg Licensed Town Guides presents 8 Miles From Slavery, a Black History Tour exploring Gettysburg’s large Black community from the years leading up to the Civil War through Reconstruction. This guided walking tour shares stories of fear, triumph, and uncertainty while highlighting the people and events that made Gettysburg an important stop on a road to freedom.

Led by a licensed town guide, the tour covers abolitionists, kidnappers, heroes, villains, and significant moments connected to Gettysburg’s Black history. Guests learn how free Black residents, freedom seekers, and local allies navigated danger, resistance, and change during one of the most defining eras in American history.

Each 8 Miles From Slavery tour offers a unique perspective through primary-source narratives, local history, and stories that reveal Gettysburg beyond the battlefield. The guide provides the meeting location after booking. Advance reservations are required.
