Celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States and the historic Dobbin House with a guided tour through one of Gettysburg’s most remarkable landmarks. Offered nearly every day from June 9 through November 30, 2026, this immersive experience explores the oldest house in Gettysburg, built in 1776, the same year America declared its independence.

Beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Dobbin House on Steinwehr Avenue, the hour-plus tour transports visitors through four centuries of American history. The presentation follows the lives of Rev. Alexander Dobbin and his wife, Isabella, Scots-Irish immigrants whose influence helped shape the early development of what is now Gettysburg and Adams County. As guests move through the home’s historically decorated rooms, they encounter authentic antiques, frontier-era living spaces, and stories that connect the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and the nation’s continuing journey.

The tour highlights the family’s preparations for frontier defense, the spring that supplied water to the household, and the fireplace kitchen where daily life unfolded in colonial America. Visitors also discover the hidden space associated with the Underground Railroad and learn how the Zeigler family experienced the Battle of Gettysburg while living in the home. Stops throughout the house reveal the enduring legacy of the Dobbin family and the generations who followed.

Tours last approximately 90 minutes and cover three floors connected by six staircases. Tour space is limited. Sign up here to reserve your spot, up to 3 months ahead of your preferred tour date.  A $7 gratuity per person is appreciated for the tour guides
