Explore the history of the George Spangler Farm & Field Hospital on a guided tour of this historic Gettysburg site. Volunteers and staff share stories about the farm, its buildings and the people connected to it during the Battle of Gettysburg.

During the battle in July 1863, the George Spangler Farm became a Union field hospital that treated more than 1,900 wounded soldiers. Today, the restored site preserves several original buildings, including the stone farmhouse, bank barn and summer kitchen. The summer kitchen also marks the location where Confederate General Lewis A. Armistead died from wounds suffered during Pickett’s Charge.

Guided tours provide a closer look at the farm and its role during the Battle of Gettysburg. Living history, docent-led walks and special programming also take place on select dates throughout the spring, summer and fall.

A timed shuttle/admission ticket is required. Shuttles depart the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center, 1195 Baltimore Pike, at 9:40 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. on tour dates. The George Spangler Farm & Field Hospital is located at 488 Blacksmith Shop Road in Gettysburg.
