Haunted Orphanage Tour explores one of the most disturbing chapters in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania history inside the Soldier’s Orphans’ Homestead. Departing from the tour center at 778 Baltimore Street, this 90-minute guided experience combines documented Civil War-era history with enduring tales of paranormal activity tied to the property.

The tour opens with a brief walk around the original grounds, offering context about the orphanage and its role in housing children after the Battle of Gettysburg. Inside, guests move through preserved areas of the home, including the original dining room and additional interior spaces, while hearing accounts of the children who once lived there. The experience deepens as the group descends the original wooden staircase into the dark basement—known as “The Pit” or “The Dungeon”—where stories detail the harsh punishments allegedly carried out by a strict headmistress. Many believe the emotional imprint of those events still lingers more than a century later.

This tour involves stairs and light walking and is not handicap accessible. Only service animals wearing a service vest are permitted. Cameras are encouraged, as guests often attempt to document unexplained phenomena.

Cancellations or changes are accepted up to 24 hours before the scheduled tour time.
