The Historic Farnsworth House in Gettysburg invites visitors to step into the past with a guided tour of one of the area’s most storied properties, proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Rich with history, the home offers a compelling glimpse into the events surrounding the Battle of Gettysburg, where preserved details throughout the building reveal the realities of 1863.

Guests can explore the garret, where a Confederate sharpshooter is believed to have fired the shot that claimed the life of Jennie Wade, the only civilian killed during the battle. Inside, curated displays of authentic Civil War artifacts provide further insight into the lives and experiences of those who lived through the conflict.

The tour continues into the cellar, now presented as a Victorian Viewing Parlor, featuring period furnishings that reflect mourning customs of the era. Outside, more than 100 bullet holes remain visible in the brick exterior, serving as a lasting reminder of the home’s place on the front lines. Throughout the experience, visitors uncover the layered history of the Farnsworth House from its origins to its role today.
