Get ready to join GettyPeds on an incredible journey through time as we explore the intriguing history of the Marines’ visit to Gettysburg. In the early 1920s, the Marine Corps was on the verge of being disbanded due to funding issues. To raise awareness and funds, the Corps embarked on a tour of major Civil War battlefields, including Gettysburg. During their visit, they reenacted Pickett’s charge using both Civil War and modern tactics, showcasing their skills and equipment.
Our tour will take us to the sites of the large camp constructed to house the Marines and their equipment, where we will learn about their daily life during their stay. We will also witness the reenactment of Pickett’s charge and gain insight into the tactics used by the Marines. Finally, we will pay our respects at the site of the last battlefield casualties of Gettysburg, two Marine Corps officers Hamilton and Martin who lost their lives in a plane crash.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to delve into the fascinating history of the Marines’ visit to Gettysburg and their contribution to the preservation of our nation’s heritage. Join us for a truly unforgettable experience.
