Gettysburg Eddie: The Story of Edward S. Plank

Lawrence Knorr, Ph.D., presents his book Gettysburg Eddie, about the life and accomplishments of Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Eddie Plank. Dr. Knorr covers the family history before Eddie’s birth, his youth and townball exploits, his days at Gettysburg College, and his rapid ascent to the major leagues with Connie Mack’s Philadelphia Athletics in 1901. Knorr then highlights Plank’s Major League career, including humorous moments and World Series appearances. The lecture closes with details about Plank’s very short retirement before his untimely passing and a bit about how Plank is remembered.

Today, Hettie Shrivers’ garden has been transported to the past, and features the herbs, plants and vegetables that Hettie herself would have grown in 1863.

Join Shriver House Tour Guide & Gardener, Gayle Underwood, for an evening in Hettie’s garden discussing historic plants, herbal remedies, & gardening techniques.

Light refreshments will be provided. You are welcome to bring a chair or stool.

In the event of rain or inclement weather, the tour will be rescheduled.

Stuff the Bus

Come ‘Stuff The Bus’ to support our annual Back to School Supply Drive Saturday, July 26th at the Gettysburg Area Middle School on Lefever Street. Adams County School Board candidates will be on site to receive your donations of school supplies.Donations can also be dropped off at one of the many collection boxes located across Adams County.Help give Adams County kids the supplies they need to succeed in school this year!
