Adams County, Pennsylvania is the fruit belt, technically we are part of it, but once you have made a trip here you will understand exactly what we mean. Our fresh fruit includes every berry imaginable – melons, 100 varieties of apples, 30 varieties of blueberries, peaches, apricots, plums, the list goes on and on! The best part of this, is that throughout the summer and early fall, several of our farms offer pick-your-own – talk about truly knowing where your food comes from!
While picking exploring these pick-your-own experiences, explore Adams County’s newest offering, the Adams County Crop Hop, A Farm and Market Trail. The farms and markets along The Crop Hop also offer farm tours, fresh meats, hands-on experiences and more. Head to one of our markets to begin picking or purchasing some fresh produce. Explore multiple stops and earn fun prizes as you dig into our beautiful countryside. However, we think the real reward will be the memories you make and the delicious treats you score along the way.
June really kicks off the picking season with sweet and sour cherries at Boyer Nurseries & Orchards. These are quickly followed by blueberries, and then apples starting in late August or early September, depending on the weather. There is nothing better than packing a picnic lunch and heading to Boyer’s for a family day in the fields. You can even enjoy their Hedge Maze. Make it a date and spend time at the on-site tasting room, Boyer Cellars, where you will enjoy a variety of wines and ciders.
Hollabaugh Bros. Fruit Farm & Market also offers pick-your-own blueberries and apples in season. A recent addition to the offering, don’t miss your chance to cut your own flowers. While at the farm to pick, be sure to stop at the market where you will discover a variety of other produce fresh from the farm. You can also pick a few fresh baked goods baked right on site, or maybe you prefer an apple cider donut milkshake to power you through your picking fest. Don’t miss their many special events and full market selection throughout the year.
If you aren’t up for collecting your own fruits, don’t worry – you can simply pick-your-own from the bin with a variety of offerings throughout the year. Stop by the Historic Round Barn and Farm Market, McDannell’s Fruit Farm & Market, Oyler’s Organic Farms & Market or Sandoe’s Fruit Market for your favorite fruits and veggies.
Make your next trip a farm-stay and enjoy waking up amid the orchards at Quaker Valley Orchards & Guesthouse, nestled on a 220-acre fruit farm. During your stay, you are invited to enjoy picking fresh fruit in season, fishing in the pond, walking through the orchards or gathering fresh eggs in the morning. This is an experience you won’t ever forget.
