We know how stir crazy the kids, and the adults, can get during the wintertime. Pack the family up and head to Gettysburg for a long weekend!
Begin your day with some hands-on fun! Try out a kid-friendly art class at the Adams County Arts Council or Under the Horizon, or perhaps a cooking class at one of our farm markets. Learn something new and create memories together that you’ll cherish throughout the years.
Next, head to Liberty Mountain Resort just outside of Gettysburg for some outdoor fun. If you’re a family of adventurers, hit the mountain for some skiing or snowboarding. If snow tubing is more your speed, head up to Boulder Ridge to slide down the mountain. The kids will have a blast and dining options are conveniently located right on site, because you’re sure to work up an appetite.
End your day with a delicious dinner in historic Gettysburg. Check in to one of our affordable accommodations – you’ll need your rest for tomorrow’s activities!
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at your accommodation before heading to Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center to check out the film, museum and cyclorama experience. They kids are bound to fall in love with history.
Next, hit the town for some shopping. Two must-sees for the kids are Sweeet! THE Candy Store in Gettysburg, PA! and Nerd Herd Gifts & Games. What kid doesn’t love a store with tantalizing candy lining every shelf? And at Nerd Herd they can try out all the latest games, toys and gadgets. There are many amazing restaurants nearby to choose from when hunger strikes.
When you’re done exploring town, we recommend heading back to Liberty Mountain Resort for some more winter fun. Their ice-skating rink is absolutely beautiful in the evenings. And if you’re up for a slight detour, don’t miss your chance to stop at Mister Ed’s Elephant Museum & Candy Emporium along the way!
If you’re looking for one last stop to hit on the way home, head to Carlisle Sports Emporium about 35 miles north of Gettysburg in Carlisle, Pa. The family will be entertained for hours with laser tag, a virtual reality gaming system, indoor go-kart racing, an arcade, roller skating and batting cages. Good luck getting the kids to go home after this stop!
