Adams County Library System presents Revolutionary Reads: Black Patriots and Loyalists/Chains

The Adams County Library System presents Revolutionary Reads, a special book club celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. Participants are invited to bring a snack and beverage and join in thoughtful discussion comparing and contrasting historical fiction and nonfiction works focused on the American Revolution.

On February 12, the selections are Black Patriots and Loyalists by Alan Gilbert and/or Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson.

Participants may choose one or both books to read and discuss.

The Adams County Library System presents the Historical Fiction Book Club. Celebrate Daniel A. Payne: A Visionary Beyond Borders

He crossed boundaries – geographic, intellectual, and cultural.He built institutions that continue to shape generations.He believed education could transform a nation.And yet, so many have never heard his name:Daniel Alexander Payne.

As America nears its 250th anniversary, we revisit a leader whose ideas still shape our national conversation. Guiding the evening is Rev. Dr. Mark Kelly Tyler, AME Historiographer, filmmaker, and nationally recognized voice on Black history and social justice.

Part lecture, part performance, part cultural experience, this evening opens a window into Payne’s extraordinary vision and the world he helped shape.

Registration is encouraged for this free event. 

44th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration: An Evening of Infinite Hope

The 44th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at Gettysburg College, An Evening of Infinite Hope, is a community gathering honoring Dr. King’s legacy through music, reflection, and the spoken word.  The evening includes a community sing workshop led by Dr. John Wesley Wright, performances by the Sunderman Conservatory and the Gettysburg Children’s Choir, and a keynote address by Chaplain Michael Bright. 

A reception follows the formal program, creating space for community connection and shared reflection.

Resurrecting Abraham Lincoln’s ‘Honored Dead’ of the Gettysburg National Cemetery

The Gettysburg National Cemetery—final resting place of more than 3,500 Union soldiers—stands today as one of the most solemn sites in Gettysburg. In this program, Dr. Jim Christian brings the stories behind those headstones to life. Drawing from his extensive statistical analysis of the named graves, he shares a series of powerful accounts of the men who never returned home.

Dr. Christian, author of Abraham Lincoln’s Honored Dead at the Gettysburg National Cemetery, will also reveal the research methods that allowed him to share corrected gravestone names and recover the true identities of hundreds of fallen soldiers.

In Camp & Field 1861-1865: The Civil War Through the Lenses of the Stereopticon (Winter Lecture Series)

Featuring some of the best Rangers, historians, and authors from across the country, this popular eight-week Winter Lecture Series returns to the Gettysburg National Military Park (NMP) Museum and Visitor Center in 2026!

The Winter Lecture Series is held at 1:30 p.m. on weekends in the Gettysburg NMP Museum and Visitor Center from January 10 through March 8, 2026. Seating is available on a first come – first serve basis. Free tickets are available day of at the Gettysburg NMP Museum and Visitor Center. Schedule is subject to change.
