Yes we have a famous battlefield to tour by car, bicycle, horseback, and even on foot but we boast a wealth of activities beyond those historic acres.
With adventures to suit every budget, Gettysburg and Adams County businesses offer plenty of packages to help visitors create their dream vacations.
Looking for the easy way to experience great food? If so, book your Savor Gettysburg Food Tour for 8 stops on a culinary adventure mixed with tales of history along the way. Entice your taste buds with an authentic variety of local tastes and treats.
Not into the group thing? Take your own tour – want something historic? Try the Farnsworth House Inn Restaurant and Sweney’s Tavern for game pie or pickled watermelon rind – trust me it is way better than it sounds. Like seafood… crab dip at Gettysburg Eddie’s is amazingly rich and you can still eat the entire dish yourself.
More of a pizza connoisseur? Hit Tommy’s Pizza – a local staple and now a hot spot for great brews. Check their calendar to see if they are doing any tasting events. If you want some more great brews, check out Appalachian Brewing Company – they offer great pub food and their own brews including root beer.
I can’t think drink without bringing up our great wineries – Adams County Winery, Jack’s Hard Cider, and Halbrendt Vineyard & Winery. Also check out the tasting room at Boyer Cellars. Each offers a different type of wine –from sweet to crisp to dry and robust. Don’t forget to try the hard ciders at Hauser and Reid’s – Adams County is Apple Country so you can bet we will offer some of the best ciders you will ever taste.
While you are out discovering the taste of our vines, be sure to hit some of our great county restaurants. Hickory Bridge Farm offers farm-style meals on the weekends, ask what came from the garden.
If you want to be sure you can take some treats home with you, consider hitting our farm markets. From spring to winter, you will discover why agriculture is a top industry in Adams County. From fresh veggies to juicy fruit – including our #1 apple, you can fill your basket with tasty and healthy treats. You will also find a few that may be a little less healthy but definitely delicious – homemade cookies and cakes, local ice creams, and delicious breads. If you remember to bring a cooler for your drive home, you may want to pick up some free range eggs or farm fresh meats.
Of course you can’t eat for your entire trip, so we may suggest you also consider a tour of the Gettysburg National Military Park and of the town. Maybe play a round of golf or spend a few hours at one of our day spas. Explore the countryside in between the many tastings. Whatever your choice, we wish you happy eating!
